Albatrosses, Blue Feet Jan van Genten and other Free Birds by Leon Veerman

Published on 05 May 2017

In addition to the free birds we encounter in our daily lives, Leon Veerman has a great fascination for the rare species. Thus, his the latest sculptures are inspired by the Albatross Year Cycle , a bird that lives in the South Pole area and has the widest range of wings. An albatros couple stays together for a life-time, but in total just 3 months in the year. Then they breed in large colonies on islets in the southern oceans. After fleeing the young birds, the male and female leave each other for a hunting trip over those oceans. After 9 months, they will see each other again in the same place for a new breeding period.

The Blue Foot Jan van Gent is also a favorite subject by Leon Veerman. Because of their cuddly blue feet, with which they draw attention to their mating dance.

And it goes without saying that the stately and at the same time tender pinguïn always appears somewhere in one of Leon Veerman's sculptures.
